A dare devil, volcano expedition leader, had a close call when a volcano explodes just metres away from him.
Geoff Mackley, 51, who describes himself as a ‘professional idiot’ had gotten close to the crater of the Yasur Volcano, in Vanatu, an island off the coast of Australia, when the a mini explosion took place.
Geoff said: “I was setting the Go Pro up in case there was an explosion.
“I knew that eventually there would be an explosion, the ground shook and a shock wave hits one second before.
“I was inside the danger zone setting up a Go Pro when the big explosion happened.”
Geoff is accustomed to the unpredictable nature of volcanoes and describes the incident as just, ‘another day in the office’.
He said: “I wasn’t really worried, I don’t have time for that.
“Its not really safe, there could be a really big explosion but we haven’t lost a camera yet.
“It was another day in the office, sometimes the office blows up, that’s what I am hoping will happen.”
