It’s Ed-ible Sheeran! A talented mum has made a life-size cake of ginger pop star Ed Sheeran.
Lara Mason, 31, spent 200 hours painstakingly crafting the masterpiece with her husband, Nikki and the finished cake weighed in at 15 stone.
The confectionery statue was very aptly ginger flavoured and Ed’s head was sculpted entirely from white chocolate.
The mum-of-two, from the West Midlands, used more than 100 eggs, a stone and a half of butter and more than four litres of double cream to complete the lifelike Ed, along with copious amounts of flour, caster sugar, chocolate, fondant icing and gingerbread syrup.
Lara, who has been baking amazing cakes since launching her company, Tasty Cakes, in 2013, said the pop star’s tattoos were the hardest thing to do.
She said: “Tattoos are tricky anyway but Ed is always changing his. He tattoos one over another as part of his life story so it was hard keeping up.
“Tattoo artists spend hours on these designs so you can imagine how hard that is to replicate.
“The face was pretty tricky too. It’s difficult enough to make sponge, chocolate and icing look like a human but making it look like a specific person is even harder.”
The Ginger Br-Ed Sheeran was made using layers of sponge sculpted around a giant metal structure which was covered in cling film.
Lara also created a Celine Dion cake, dubbed Praline Dion and a Jamiroquai cake, called JAM-iroquai, as part of the project – which was commissioned by the O2 to mark it’s 10th anniversary.
