It’s the kind of luxury retreat that Fred and Wilma Flintstone might dream of – but a luxury safari retreat is offering modern day guests the chance to sleep in a boutique bedroom – with no walls.
Guests at the Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve have only a rock for shelter as they snuggle down for a night in a king-size bed.
But the unparalleled views of the stars at night and the African outback at dawn certainly make up for it.
With no neighbouring accommodation for miles, guests can experience nature, the stillness and beautiful views of four different mountain ranges, without disruption.
Facilities at the under the stars room include a bath tub, outdoor shower, and a natural rock pool.
Guests travel to the Star Suite on quad bikes or safari vehicle and are left overnight equipped with torches, two-way radio, lanterns, dinner and drinks.
The open air room provides for an entire night under the stars, without compromise on comfort, as you drift off with just the covers between you and the heavens above.
Kagga Kamma’s Resort Manager, Tania Steenkamp, said: “This is one of Kagga Kamma’s many unique features – a night under the starlit skies with all the comforts of a suite.
“Kagga Kamma is definitely one of the most beautiful, and exceptional places in South Africa. The distinctive landscape with its rocky outcrops, open plains and almost surreal look and feel is very inspirational; it awakens a feeling that nature is much larger than we can ever be.
“We are excited to share this wonderful experience with all our guests.”
