A couple who bought a bus off eBay have converted it into an incredible travelling motor home for all their family.
Tom Grantham, 29, and his partner Kayley Barnes, 30, spent £1,200 on the vehicle they were shopping for a motor home.
They then discovered the 23-year-old bus was the number 51 bus which had travelled from Grimsby to Louth past their family home everyday.
So the couple set about completely refitting the Stagecoach single decker at a cost of approximately £10,000 over a six year period.
Tom, who works as a horse dentist, said: “Kayley and I were looking for a motor home and saw the bus and thought why not.
“It has been perfect for family holidays.”
It took Tom nine months to make the bus roadworthy while Kayley designed the interior, with 3 double beds, an oven, a gas log fire, a toilet and shower but kept some of the original features like the dashboard, signs.
The pair with their three children aged eight, seven and three then used the 1993 bus to travel to festivals as well as family holidays to France and Belgium
But it was on the way to Italy the engine gave out leaving the family stranded in Switzerland.
Tom from Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, added: “It was a nightmare!
“The police took our passports so we couldn’t abandon the bus due to a law they have in the country.
“I had to call a friend to tow it all the way back home and I had to replace the engine.
“We got trains back to France and stopped off at Disneyland Paris, which of course the kids appreciated.
“They absolutely love going places on the bus.”
They have now put the bus back on ebay at £8,000 and the auction ends on Monday.
He added: “The kids are gutted that we are selling the bus but it’s time for a new challenge.”
