Well stone me! Meet the photographer who creates beautiful gravity-defying pictures by balancing giant stones on top of each other.

Patrick Zephyr, from Massachusetts, finds the perfect location for his shoots – finding out where the sun, moon or milky way will break the horizon, then arriving early to the location to prepare each picture just in time.

The 47-year-old then meticulously balances the stones, understanding their individual weight distribution and shape, to erect the most awe-inspiring monuments, before capturing the incredible scene on camera.

Patrick, who enjoys the very precise process, said: “I have been chasing light for many years and when I’m behind the camera I find myself very connected to the moment. Stacking stones brings me to this place also.

“Time disappears and I feel like part of everything around me -not a spectator but a participant.

“I love the creative process and that’s what makes me feel alive.

“I view each image that I capture equally as they are all special moments in time.

“I generally have an idea about the location but once I decide to start stacking thought goes away and I just stack and wait for the light. It always seems to happen very fast and very slow at the same time.”
