A pregnant couple surprised their excited grandparents-to-be with a cute pregnancy reveal and gender reveal all on the same day.
Rob and Keli Johnson decided to shock Rob’s parents, Bruce and Robin from New York State, with a double whammy when they came to visit them at their North Carolina home.
With the baby to be their first child and Bruce and Robin’s first grandchild, the pair decided to surprise them by planting a ‘Baby on Board’ badge on the guest bedroom door when they came to stay with them for a recent holiday.
In this emotional footage Robin, 61, can be seen breaking down in tears of joy as she sees the badge and then opens the door to see balloons spelling out the word baby, along with a scan picture and a cuddly toy on the bed, which contains a recording of the baby’s heartbeat.
Later that day the excited grandparents-to-be were surprised again when Rob, 31, and Keli, 29, who have been married for two years, planned a gender reveal using blue smoke to confirm they would soon be welcoming a grandson into the world.
Amazingly Keli was the only person who knew the sex of their unborn baby so the coloured smoke was a surprise for Rob too.
Bruce, a 53-year-old accountant, said: “The bedroom is at the top of the stairs. When we arrived we all said our hellos and I took one of the suitcases up to the room. That’s when I saw the Baby On Board sign taped to the bedroom door.
“I was definitely surprised but didn’t say anything so that I wouldn’t spoil the surprise for Robin. I just smiled and waited for her to get to the top of the stairs. I knew there would be a reaction but it was bigger than I expected.
“When we opened the door it was like another surprise with the decoration, the pictures, the card and the stuffed elephant.
“Discovering each was just one surprise after another. It was overwhelming and awesome.
“Robin has strong reactions to surprises, as you can see and it’s genuine. One thing she does when she’s surprised is she’ll smack you on the shoulder and then hug you. She did it to me on our wedding day when I surprised her with a horse drawn carriage.
“In the video, that happens off camera but you can hear the smack when she smacks Rob and then hugs him.
“It doesn’t mean much to others who don’t know her but it makes me chuckle.
“It was a happy moment that brought a tear to my eye. I was proud and a bit overwhelmed with it all. It was a bit like waking up and finding you’re on a roller coaster.
“I was also happy that we were fortunate enough to find out in person. It’s a challenge when your children move away to start their adult lives.
“With the gender announcement on the same day it was just one surprise after another.”
