It’s more usual for motorists to expect to see a zebra crossing – but these bikers were gobsmacked when they were forced to slam on the brakes as an enormous TIGER stopped them in their tracks.

The enormous beast – thought to weigh around 40 stone – was captured on camera strolling across the busy road in Central India just feet away from a group of bikers.

Bhargava Srivari, 29, managed to capture images of the bizarre moment, as he drove along the road in the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve.

The amateur wildlife snapper said: “I knew deep down that the tiger would try his best to avoid the road or at least try not to be seen by people while he crossed.

“However, once we tracked him down on the other side of the forest, he seemed to have decided that as he had company in any case, it was just best to jog across the road into the other side of the forest.

“But little did he think that he would be met by two bikers when he appeared on the road. While the tiger was certainly taken by surprise just as much as the bikers, I don’t think he ever intended to attack them. Nonetheless, it is not easy to be exposed to a 250-kilo killing machine on a motorbike and keep your calm. So, kudos to these bikers for holding it together and patiently waiting for the tiger to walk across.”

The reserve is home to around 80 wild tigers but, according to Bhargava wholes in the area, they typically avoid people.

Bhargava added: “Both the people and wildlife have largely managed to co-exist without too many incidents of human-animal conflict, thus paving way for one of the most fascinating success stories of tiger conservation that Tadoba is.”
