A vet has shared footage of a rare puppy born with FIVE PAWS.
When puppy Gema, from St. Louis, Missouri, was born and her owners saw her deformities, they immediately reached out to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis and surrendered her, in the hope that the vets could give her a fighting chance.
The now three-month-old dog was born with two back paws and three front ones, with one extra foot sticking out at the end of one of her legs.
Even though her unusual condition makes it a little harder for Gema to walk, the puppy appears to be happy and healthy in a recent video released by Stray Rescue.
Executive Director, Cassady Caldwell said: “When her original family reached out to us for help, of course we immediately brought Gema into the Stray Rescue family.
“They did what was in the best interest of this little puppy, and we commend them for that.
“She will get everything she needs in order to have the brightest future possible.”
According to Natalie Thomson, a spokesperson at Stray Rescue, Gema’s coordination and balance are good, even though she tires quickly.
The adorable puppy is also starting to use her back legs more so that she stands up like a kangaroo.
Natalie said: “Our veterinarian team will examine her, and we have promised Gema we will do everything possible to help her.
“We think she knows she’s in loving hands because her tail never stops wagging.
“Gema loves to be held and cuddled, and we’re happy to oblige.
“Whether she will have a surgery in the future is currently unknown.”
