A friendly sea lion took a swim in a hotel pool after wandering in off the beach.
While a tour group finished their evening with a sit-down meal at Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, an unexpected guest joined in on the fun.
To everyone’s surprise, a friendly Galápagos sea lion hopped out of the Academy Bay and decided to take a splash in the hotel pool.
Swimming from one end to the other, the marine mammal seemed right at home in the pool.
Jason Goldman of Scifari Expeditions said: “Because permanent human communities have only been established in the Galápagos for a few hundred years, most animals are still fairly unafraid, and are willing to get fairly close to people.
“I sort of suspect this particular sea lion was probably a frequent visitor and knew exactly what they were doing.
“Our guests were delighted by the chance to see such a magnificent, beautiful creature up close, and thought it was pretty funny that it chose to take a swim in the pool.”
