An unlucky warthog received a nasty wake up alarm as his sleeping hole was surrounded by a pride of lions.
Joseph Msechu was leading a tour through Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park on October 1 when he spotted these attentive lions.
Just visible under the ground, the warthog is trying its best to conceal itself as eight lionesses and their cubs watch patiently waiting for it to try and make an escape.
Safari specialist Joseph said: “Unfortunately, I don’t know what happened to the warthog as we had to move on.
“Warthogs don’t dig their own holes, so they steal them from other animals like aardvarks.
“They like holes as they think it offers protection.
“However, normally the lions will just go straight in, I’ve never seen them just observe from the side.”
