A professional photographer climbed an active volcano to capture amazing footage that wouldn’t look out of place in a Lord of the Rings movie.
Professional photographer Vernon Deck, 45, travelled to the exotic and remote location of the Halmahera region of Indonesia in order to fearlessly climb the live active Dukono volcano, Indonesia.
Towering 1300 metres above sea level, the ominous volcano could act as a perfect stand-in for Mt. Doom from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies.
The five-hour trek to the rim volcano was clearly worth it, as fearless Vernon managed to capture some amazing and breath-taking drone shots of the live volcano as spluttered dark ash into the air as the sun rose.
Vernon said: “Dukono is the second most active volcano in the world, so there was some danger for sure.
“The vibrations and the constant rumbling were a strange feeling that I’ve never experienced before, it was amazing really.”
