A hair-raising video shows the moment a house was swept away due to heavy rains that has been pounding a hilly state in north-east India for over a week.
The video begins with two female neighbours gasping in shock as they watch in horror a two-story house shaking before collapsing within seconds in front of their eyes.
Luckily, no one was injured as the owners had been evacuated from the house a few days ago.
The incident happened in Hunthar Vang neighbourhood in Aizawl-a picturesque city at an elevation of 130 metres in Mizoram that nestles on top of beautiful hills in north-east India.
The state has been cut off from the rest of the country as landslide, triggered by heavy and incessant pre-monsoon rains, blocked the National Highway 54 on Tuesday.
More than 50 families were evacuated after the house collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
“The Highway has been blocked since yesterday due to the landslide caused by continuous rainfall since last week,” said Mizoram Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Director C Lalpeksanga.
Telecommunication systems were also disrupted in many places as several telephone lines snapped due to the rainfall.
