Animals Life

A terminally ill beagle has defied the odds to fulfil her bucket list thanks to her doting owner.

Pooch Juliette, 11, was diagnosed with oral melanoma September 2018 – with vets predicting she had just one or two months to live without treatment as the cancer spread from her mouth to her lungs.

With this in mind, her owner, Jane Lee, 23, from Missouri, USA, put together a bucket list for her and her best friend to fulfil before she passed away.

From paddle boarding and strawberry picking, to fancy dress and meeting Santa, Juliette is living her life to the full with doting owner Jane.

Jane, a college preparation coach,  said: “I was heartbroken when Juliette was diagnosed with cancer.

“She’s not only my best friend, but my emotional support animal too as I suffer with severe anxiety and depression, so I couldn’t imagine life without her.

“The vets were convinced she wouldn’t make it to her 11th birthday, so when she we threw her a massive birthday party – that was one of the things on the bucket list.

“The vets said without treatment she would live one to two months, and with treatment maybe six to eight months but we’re now approaching our tenth month since her diagnosis and Juliette is doing pretty well.”

Following her cancer diagnosis, Juliette had to undergo radiation treatment which had a lot of potential side effects for Juliette.

Eventually the radiation ended up severe enough to kill her.

Jane added: “The other day her vet actually called her a ‘miracle dog’ because Juliette’s mouth is almost completely healed from the side effects of the radiation therapy, which the vet, oncologist, and dental specialist all said would likely kill her.

“Since her diagnosis, it’s been harder to do things, so we try just take it day by day – the better she feels, the more we’ll do!

“There’s a few other things we’d like to do yet such as fishing and go to a drive in movie.

“I’d love to take her up a hot air balloon but I’m not sure she’d be allowed.”
